Is paradise lost? Can we find it again?

In the past when people were separated by distance and the lack of technical accomplishments the human race could exist in relative peace.

Conflicts did arise when two or more cultures butted against each other and their values and customs did not align. Eventually these conflicts were resolved by adopting a new, broader set of values. Values that allowed all involved to grow socially, emotionally and intellectually.
These new values always came from a point of reference outside the culture's hierarchy of authority and education. The new values, at first, caused upheaval; those who were profiting and comfortable within the old value system were threatened and resistant to change. But gradually the new values which were in line with progress overshadowed the old systems and micro societies grew into robust vibrant communities as part of an ever advancing civilization. The old systems and values which had served well in times past melted away and were relegated to history.

HERE WE ARE AGAIN
The world is changing again. It does not matter where you live on this planet change is inevitable. Our human ability to grow and develop new technology has brought all the cultures of the world together and once again our values and customs are butting up against each other and some of the most powerful cultures and leaders who have profited and are most comfortable with how it was, are now battling for dominance. Some of those battle fronts include power, political influence, military might, economic dominance, territory and natural resources. The winners in the old system of economics and social order are really, let's be generous, only about 10% of the worlds population. These are made up of the wealthiest individuals, families and corporations of our societies and they would like to keep it that way. Unfortunately the casualties of their battles to remain dominant are the remaining 90% of the world's population.

HOW IS CIVILIZATION CHANGING?
Quite simply, knowledge! At some point in the recent past the flood gates of knowledge have been flung open. Now it is possible for almost every human being on this planet to learn about how everyone else is living and many, if not all, people are beginning to question if what they have been taught or led to believe is true. And many are finding the lot that society has given them to be wanting.
Some of the old values, people everywhere, are questioning today are;

- Is it right for some individuals to hold other humans in economic and social bondage?
- Is it right for countries to have and hoard arsenals of lethal weapons that could destroy the planet and billions of human lives on earth just in case they are attacked by a perceived enemy?
- What sense does it make for a small percentage of humans to hold controlling interest in the planet's vast quantities of wealth and resources when the majority of the world's population is only surviving on a day to day basis?
- How can both sophisticated and simple governments in the world today allow more than 65 million people to be stranded homeless in refugee camps or wandering stateless because they fear for their safety and economic well being in their homelands?
- How are the governments of the day justifying this level of callousness?
- On the matter of climate change, we know the immanent danger, we know the consequences of neglect but in reality our governments and social leaders are doing the bare minimum to prevent this.

BUT WHY
Here is a question. Why, on a small planet with a population of 6 plus billion people, each one of which can now gather knowledge, can conceive of a united civilization and visualize a world living in relative harmony, do we continue to allow a very small number of people who profit greatly from the systems of the past to dominate the agenda?
Not wanted
The majority of people;
- do not want war,
- do not want nuclear weapons and other military tactics threatening our daily lives,
- do not want abject poverty in the world,
- do not want to see refugees fleeing for their lives, wandering aimlessly while governments of wealthy and secure countries discount the problem, do little to find acceptable solutions and deflect the cost and burden of the issue to less capable governments and countries.
Wanted
- We do want the above issues dealt with fairly and humanely,
- we do want climate issues addressed,
- we do want our elected representatives to whom we have delegated the power and authority to take action and fulfill their obligations and responsibility to the people.

PERHAPS
Perhaps it is now time for us, the 6 billion majority to recognize the old systems and values are no longer working. Perhaps it is now time to adopt a new set of values? Perhaps it is now time to put aside the values that served civilizations of the past and begin to seek out and adopt new values that are more world encompassing, values that will enable us all to grow into our next stage of human maturity.
Are we now ready to realize we are One Human Race living on a single planet?
Shouldn't our system of values and systems of social administration reflect this new reality?

It is time for us the 90% majority of the world's population to demand of our Governments and world leaders to seek out and implement a new set of values and systems of public administration and allow those values and systems that served the world of the past, fade into history.
